WIM SPOTLIGHT

Penny X – ‘Karma’

As angsty as her last release, this single teases the anthemic body of work entitled; ‘how to (not) get over your ex’ by Penny x. An aesthetically on point artist with a knack for pop-rock riffs, it has been interesting see the Berlin based musician rise from bedroom melodies to radio ready songs.

PENNY X’s new track ‘single song’ is a heartbreak song about the moment you realize that you’re still not over someone who doesn’t even deserve your attention, or in PENNY X’s case – a single song. It completes the 6-song Debut EP ‘how (not) to get over your X’ – a story about the end of a toxic relationship and all the feelings that come with it. With songs like the pop-rock anthem ‘back to your dad’s’ and the ballad ‘the one (that got away)’ there’s a song for every breakup mood on the EP.

Victoria Anthony – ‘Never After’

In an era with women in music have bursted into radio play – imagine a rocker Taylor Swift, pairing it with similar sounds to Dylan and Olivia Rodriguez. A summer belter for driving with the windows down, this one is reminiscent of easier times and a youthful revival to melodic-pop.

Victoria Anthony isn’t your run-of-the-mill new artist. Refreshingly wise beyond her years, with a relentless work ethic, undeniable talent, and involvement that goes beyond simply being a voice on a song, the Vancouver-based songwriter and recording artist has amassed tens of millions of music streams, YouTube views, and views of TikTok videos using her songs. While there is an artful and immediately memorable pop vibe to her music, there is also lyrical depth and soulfulness which you would not expect from a teenager just turning 17. She is smart, articulate, and has a drive and passion for her craft. She is firm in her dedication to making music that, first and foremost, has meaning for her.

EMMY – ‘COOL GIRL’

A stripped back yet rhythmic composition, ‘Cool Girl’ encapsulates everything you think about when you hear ‘good vibes’. A indie-pop track that indulges in a shoegaze influence and melodic vocals, Emmy questions the staus quo with the question: “what does it mean to be cool?”
