WIM SPOTLIGHT

Katie O’Malley – ‘Karma’

A tactically curated piece that puts O’Malley’s vocals in the spotlight, this riff heavy yet melodic single cements ‘Karma’ as an ear-worm anthem for blues and soft-rock listeners.

A voice that pours with emotion and fills a venue, Katie O’Malley and her hip-swaying Americana band have played across the UK. Hailing from Manchester and proud northerners, they describe their sound as a mix of Americana, Blues & Rock. Their 70’s inspired music takes you on a journey of catchy melody to guitar heavy sounds and gravelly throttling vocals, giving an essence of Janis Joplin brought in to modern day rootsy rock.

Together, they have received airplay from BBC Introducing UK supporting top ten album selling Beth Rowley and Jill Andrews and on their UK tours.

Although these past couple of years have been a turbulent time for artists it’s not stopped Katie from releasing new music with the release of her fourth E.P ‘ Dirt On My Knees’ backed by Louder Than War and Planet Rock Radio.

Worlds Apart x Scarlett – ‘Never After’ (feat. Scarlett)

An infusion of sounds that prove sonically exciting, ‘Never After’ is an electro-pop wave that combines ambient atmospheres, haunting melodies, and powerful dubstep drops. A technically profound track, it explores the feeling of being immortal and the sort of recklessness that comes along with that.

Worlds Apart is an artist trio that combines the collective minds of three individuals into a single creative vision. Through the fusion of electronic music production, lyric writing, vocal performance, and visual arts, Worlds Apart is on a mission to spread a message of love, hope, and excitement to as many people as they can. S.H.A. is the group’s lyricist and manages the vocals side of the house (both her own vocals and the vocals of other artists). Ashley’s passion is with the visual arts, where she brings her visions to life through the creation of electronic, video, and photographic art. And lastly, Jason is the music composer, producer, and audio engineer of the group.

BB Thomaz –

Anything but what you’d expect, BB Thomaz is a neo-soul sound ready for mass consumption; a radio melody that embraces afro-beats, the accompaniment of such a talented voice and strong lyricist identifies ‘Energy’ as a tune for repeat.

The German-American singer, songwriter and producer taught herself to play piano and guitar, she also graduated from the university of Munich – with a Masters in Musicology. But as a little girl BB’s life wasn’t easy at all: Born in New York, she moved to Germany at the age of 6. Years of physical and mental abuse forced BB to run away from home as a 16-year-old and from then on to be dependent on herself. She wasn’t scared at all, because everything was better then to stay with her family. At home she wasn’t allowed out of her room and was constantly told that the she was worth nothing, she should kill herself and that she couldn’t sing.

Her incredible vocal ability has already garnered comparisons with Beyonce and Ariana Grande, but she is a unique and charismatic artist in her own right, that offers much more than just a good voice and a pretty face. BB Thomaz worked as a model, loves fitness and music. She is a full-hearted artist with many different talents, which she combines in a unique and fascinating way to express herself as an artist and individual.

Her song „Don’t go missing“ was produced with the Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Kyle K2 Stewart II (Fifth Harmony, Tamar Braxton, Fantasia) and received the german Rock & Pop Prize 2016. After that she made it into the Finals of The Voice of Germany, which allowed her to work with national and international artists such as Yvonne Catterfeld, Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson and Ed Sheeran. She is currently participating in the Eurovision Song Contest pre-round for Germany.

Her songs tell deep and meaningful stories about strength, healing, hope and emotional fights – not the right expression here I would say “survival” instead – an emotional fight is when somebody fights with another person screaming and crying. BB Thomaz goes her own way with her very warm, optimistic and fun loving nature. Her song Fighterdescribes her determination to fight for her convictions and her vision perfectly.
